Artificial Imagination: New in Town
New in Town
Liminal Echoes
A forgotten garden emerges. A solitary figure stands, cloaked in mystery. She embodies the remnants of an ancient civilisation, evoking whispers of a forgotten past. Delicate petals cascade around her, carrying fragments of memories.
What was your path to doing what you’re doing now?
All my life, I have utilised writing as a means of self-expression, as it allowed me to come closest to artistic expression. It was by chance, approximately two years ago, that I entered the world of NFTs, back when AI was still taking its initial steps. Given my background as a software engineer, the realm of AI was not unfamiliar to me. Consequently, I began my journey with Deep Dream Generator. Since then, I have been exploring and experimenting with various aspects of this medium while seeking my artistic voice.
Simultaneously, my curiosity led me to develop a keen interest in creative coding and generative art projects, and I also chose to embark on that path.
Did you have an “Aha!” moment when you knew that working with AI was what you wanted to do?
I guess this question supposes that I was working in other mediums before, and in fact, this is not the case. At the very start, I explored more mathematical tools that allowed me to create interesting artwork. However, when I stumbled upon AI, it immediately captivated my attention, and I couldn't let go of it. Although AI is often criticised, the truth is that it offers individuals without an academic, artistic background the opportunity to explore new ways of visually expressing themselves. This, in my opinion, marks a significant advancement in the history of humankind.
How does AI influence your way of doing work now?
I think the answer to the previous question also answers this one :-)
Do you collaborate with other artists?
Yes, I actively collaborate with other artists whenever possible. It's a great way to be part of a supportive community, share knowledge, and learn from one another. I've had only positive experiences through collaborations, which have enriched my artistic journey.
As a creative person, do you ever have those moments where you feel like everything you create is just shit?
As a creative person, I experience those moments where I feel like everything I create is not up to par. It's a common struggle many of us face, especially today, where social media bombards our minds with such content. Constantly seeing others create, achieve their goals, and find success can sometimes amplify the feeling of inadequacy. However, I make a conscious effort to overcome these moments because I recognise that social media often has this effect on people. Moreover, my love for creating and exploring new possibilities drives me forward. Art serves as a means to relax and find solace in the demands of everyday life. It brings me immense pleasure. I don't always dwell on whether others consider my art good or bad. Instead, I focus on the joy and fulfilment that creation brings me.
Is it necessary to you to be a part of a creative community of people?
Yes, being a part of a creative community is immensely important to me. It offers a valuable sense of connection, inspiration, and support. The collective energy and diverse perspectives within a creative community enrich my creative journey and contribute to a sense of belonging and mutual growth.
Have you taken any significant risks to move forward?
Since I have recently begun expressing myself within this medium, I see myself in the process of discovering and defining my artistic voice. As a result, I am constantly engaged in exploration and experimentation, unafraid of deviating from a specific style yet to be fully realised. Working with AI presents challenges, particularly in developing a distinctive artistic style amid the infinite possibilities it offers
What made you pursue NFT art as a medium?
My initial foray into NFT art was serendipitous, sparked by my discovery and exploration of cryptocurrencies as an investment opportunity. As I immersed myself in this realm, I became aware of NFTs and their potential in art. Starting as a collector, I was drawn to the unique possibilities NFTs offer. Motivated to delve deeper into this medium, I took a leap of faith. I decided to create my NFTs, embracing the risks and opportunities that came with it.
What advice would you give to someone starting in AI art and NFT?
Embrace curiosity and experimentation in AI art and NFT. Explore the possibilities of AI for artistic expression, blending technology and creativity. Hone your skills while staying true to your vision. Understand the NFT ecosystem, engage with the community, and seek feedback. Cherish the process of exploration, embracing setbacks as growth opportunities. Each step in this realm is a chance for self-discovery and realising your artistic potential.
What would it be if you could go back and do one thing differently?
If I could go back and do one thing differently, I would have started my artistic journey earlier. While I appreciate the experiences and growth I've gained along the way, I can't help but wonder about the additional opportunities and creative exploration I could have pursued if I had started sooner.
Do you have any unrealised or unfinished projects?
Yes, I have several projects in my roadmap that I aspire to achieve, some of which require external factors to come to fruition. I am actively working towards those goals, but embracing the process and finding joy in each step is as important as reaching the desired outcomes.
